this college was estaslished on 5th January in 1942 with 2 students by Sivanana swamigal in the saiva maha sabai building.
then got the college name was "Mahathma Ganthi College" the name was given because of the significant unit of Mahathma Ganthi.
English was the introduction language and the tamil and sinhala languages were to teach the syllabus. There were Tamil, Sinhala and Muslim students learned together here. There were 524 students in 1952. This school has a hostel too with 178 students. According to the earlier records the former Principals were Mr. Shiyam Sundar- Mr. Rajaratnam(MA.L.LB) Mr.V.S Venkataram(M.A) Mr. Weera Sinha(B.A)
The students went to india to continue their higher education at "Santhi Nikethana". This school has produced so many educated people such as Doctor, Engineers, Businessmen, Lawyers, Politicians and famous Govt.Officers.
Later the school was took over by the provincial educat
ion council on 19.01.1955. The president of the provincial education council was Mr.S.P Vythiya lingam. Who worked hard for the development of the school.
